The New York Mets are coming off of a greater season than most individuals most likely anticipated as they made a playoff run to the Nationwide League Championship Sequence.

After ending the season with a file of 89-73 and squeezing into the postseason through a wild-card spot, the Mets knocked off the Milwaukee Brewers and Philadelphia Phillies earlier than falling to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Mets stayed within the headlines this offseason as they signed free agent Juan Soto to a 15-year deal value $765 million.

Although the Mets signed Soto, they’ve but to re-sign first baseman Pete Alonso.

Mets proprietor Steve Cohen used an attention-grabbing phrase to explain their talks with Alonso.

Cohen mentions that the Mets have already introduced in a number of gamers this offseason and it has been costly.

It seems Cohen doesn’t need to pay Alonso the amount of cash he’s asking for, and that would probably be attributable to how a lot the staff spent on Soto and others.

Alonso has performed all six seasons of his MLB profession with New York.

In 2024, Alonso performed 162 video games and batted .240 with 34 dwelling runs, 88 RBIs and a .788 OPS.

Although Alonso is a fan favourite, Cohen seems to be saying that the Mets merely can’t afford him on the quantity he needs.
