Stephen Curry believes the NBA’s punishment of the Los Angeles Clippers and proprietor Steve Ballmer was justified following the league’s salary-cap investigation.
The Golden State Warriors star stated he was not caught off guard by the end result, pointing to the size of the investigation and Ballmer’s resolution to just accept the penalties.
“I wasn’t shocked,” Curry stated. “I believe the explanation the investigation took so long as it did and the concept that Steve Ballmer, who I’ve gotten to know and is a good man, is standing by the punishment. So there’s a purpose it’s occurred the best way that it has.
“On the finish of the day, Adam Silver had a job to do, and I believe the punishment is smart. And all of us transfer ahead.”
The Clippers had been fined $30 million and misplaced 5 first-round draft picks, whereas Ballmer obtained a one-year suspension. Though he initially challenged the NBA’s findings, the Clippers proprietor later accepted the league’s resolution.
“This has been a really troublesome time for everyone related to the Clippers, and for that, I’ve honest regrets,” Ballmer stated in an announcement. “I need to apologize to our followers, staff, and my fellow NBA group homeowners for the distraction and misery this matter has triggered, for which I settle for accountability as principal proprietor.
“We’re committing to place this chapter behind us. Now we have communicated to the NBA that we’re complying with the penalties assessed by the league, have paid the high-quality, and are transferring ahead.”
Kawhi Leonard was individually fined $700,000 and has since been traded to the Toronto Raptors.
