The Pittsburgh Pirates will likely be with out considered one of their finest hitters for a while, as first baseman/proper fielder Ryan O’Hearn has landed on the injured record. According to a team announcement on X, the Pirates positioned O’Hearn on the 10-day injured record with a proper quad pressure.

O’Hearn was faraway from Saturday’s 6-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies resulting from his damage.

In a corresponding transfer, the Pirates reinstated outfielder Jake Mangum from the injured record. Mangum, 30, had been on the IL since Might 6 with a left hamstring pressure.

Mangum and O’Hearn had been each offseason acquisitions of the Pirates. Mangum was acquired by way of a three-team commerce with the Tampa Bay Rays and the Houston Astros, and O’Hearn signed as a free agent in January.

Earlier than touchdown on the injured record, Mangum performed everywhere in the outfield for the Pirates, enjoying 22 video games (10 begins) and seeing time in proper discipline and heart discipline. Outfielder Billy Prepare dinner (.190 batting common, .380 OPS) has crammed in for Mangum whereas he is been out and can proceed to play a task off the bench till O’Hearn returns.

The Pirates might want to discover different sources of offense whereas Ryan O’Hearn is absent

Signed to the primary multi-year contract in a decade for the Pirates (two years, $29 million), O’Hearn has been considered one of, if not the most effective, hitters within the Pirates lineup. By 44 video games, the 2025 All-Star is batting .289 with a .827 OPS and has mashed seven house runs (third on the crew).

A pure first baseman — O’Hearn has performed 21 video games (six begins) at first base — the Pirates have primarily used O’Hearn as their beginning proper fielder (32 video games, 32 begins). Whereas O’Hearn heals, Prepare dinner will seemingly see time in proper discipline to cowl for the 32-year-old as he did for Mangum.

O’Hearn is third on the crew in RBI (29) behind heart fielder Oneil Cruz (32) and second baseman Brandon Lowe (31), so the Pirates will want one other hitter within the lineup to drive in runs. Left fielder Bryan Reynolds must be the one to step up, as he is proper behind O’Hearn in RBI (26) and has been on a tear as of late. Reynolds is hitting .308 with a .900 OPS in his final 15 video games.
