England is through to the 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinals following a hard-fought 2-0 win over Norway on Saturday at Miami Stadium. Jude Bellingham scored both of England’s goals, bringing his tournament tally up to six goals.
Norway opened the scoring in the 36th minute on a goal from Andreas Schjelderup. Schjelderup, making just his second start of the tournament, fired a shot that caromed off the right post and into the net to stun an England team that had dominated possession to that point.

Schjelderup, who set up both of Erling Haaland’s goals in Norway’s round of 16 win over Brazil, celebrated by stretching his arms wide and looking at the crowd as his teammates lifted him onto their shoulders. Meanwhile, England’s Harry Kane sat near midfield, grabbing his leg and looking toward the officials. No foul was called.
Moments before Bellingham evened the score in the first half of stoppage time, a Norway goal kick resulted in the ball appearing to make contact with an aerial camera cable before landing at the feet of England’s Elliot Anderson. The ball was eventually played to Bellingham, who beat Ørjan Nyland with a low shot to the far post.

With both teams knotted up at one goal a piece, the match went to extra time, where Bellingham scored England’s match-winner in the 93rd minute. With six goals at the tournament, Bellingham has equaled the record for most goals by an English player in a single edition of the World Cup.

England will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of Argentina vs. Switzerland. This marks the first time since 2018 that England has made the World Cup semifinals, and just the fourth time in its history that it has advanced this far.
