A Tuesday change to the Atlanta Falcons‘ media advisory indicated that backup quarterback Cooper Rush will begin over Tua Tagovailoa and
Michael Penix Jr. for Atlanta’s Week 2 recreation versus the 0-1 Carolina Panthers this coming Sunday afternoon.

Tagovailoa is dealing with an indirect harm, whereas Penix remains to be working to get again to 100% following surgical procedure to repair {a partially} torn ACL. On Wednesday, NFL insiders Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano of ESPN shared an replace on the Falcons’ quarterback scenario.

Michael Penix Jr. could not return till October?

“Tagovailoa’s harm, an indirect pressure, can linger, which places his Week 2 standing up within the air,” Fowler wrote. “…The schedule offers one other wrinkle. Atlanta will play on Thursday night time in Week 3, so even when Penix is shut, that may not be one of the best week to reacclimate him.”

The Falcons play on the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 24.

In what turned a 20-13 loss on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 13, Rush went 12-for-22 passing with 143 yards, a landing and two interceptions. Based on ESPN stats, he posted a league-worst adjusted QBR of two.6 for Week 1.

Fowler famous that Rush beginning in opposition to Carolina “would not be stunning.” In the meantime, Graziano defined why Penix and the Falcons are being so cautious relating to when the 2024 first-round draft decide could return to motion.

Michael Penix Jr. wants “extra time” to persuade himself “it is OK to return on the market and play?”

“Penix is coming off his third ACL reconstruction, which is lots of ACL reconstructions,” Graziano wrote. “I imagine it takes lots of psychological work to persuade your self it is OK to return on the market and play. If Penix wants extra time, I am certain the Falcons will give it to him, although I imagine we are going to see him on the sector in some unspecified time in the future this season. The Falcons are going to need to know whether or not he’s an actual long-term choice shifting ahead.”

As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Falcons as 2.5-point house underdogs in opposition to the Panthers. In the meantime, it appears like Penix could not play till Atlanta’s “Monday Evening Soccer” recreation on the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 5 on the earliest.
