Latest reports have urged that folks inside the Cleveland Browns need followers of the staff to comprehend that controversial veteran Deshaun Watson is on observe to be named the membership’s 2026 Week 1 beginning quarterback over Shedeur Sanders.

Throughout Wednesday appearances on ESPN Cleveland, ESPN soccer author Jake Trotter and Browns insider Tony Grossi shared extra unhealthy information about Sanders’ short-term future.

Are the Browns giving up on Shedeur Sanders with Deshaun Watson main the quarterback competitors?

“We’re listening to all this Deshaun Watson is gonna begin buzz, proper? Whether or not you agree with it or not, it is coming from someplace,” Trotter said. “And I simply do not perceive why you’d undergo the pomp and circumstance and the distraction of taking Shedeur, and but clearly you do not assume he is the man, as a result of you wouldn’t be serious about beginning Deshaun Watson in case you thought Shedeur Sanders had an opportunity to be the man.”

Watson reportedly outperformed Sanders and fellow 2025 rookie Dillon Gabriel throughout Cleveland’s voluntary minicamp that was held in late April. That mentioned, Watson reportedly “is not going to be again” with the Browns following the 2026 marketing campaign, whereas each Sanders and Gabriel are on team-friendly contracts via 2028.

Thus, one would assume first-year Cleveland head coach Todd Monken would need to get a great take a look at both Sanders or Gabriel this fall. Then once more, Monken reportedly may grow to be a one-and-done head coach if the Browns endure one other dropping season beneath his watch.

Would the Browns make Shedeur Sanders out there if he loses the beginning job to Deshaun Watson?

In the meantime, Grossi hinted that Gabriel and never Sanders may enter the 2026 season serving as Watson’s main backup.

“Gabriel is a man who will preserve quiet,” Grossi defined. “He’ll simply examine, he’ll keep up on the sport plan. He’ll help the starter in any manner he can. He’ll run the scout staff. And if wanted, he’ll play. That is what you need out of a backup quarterback. Shedeur, his shadow is simply so large.”

Grossi added that he thinks that “shadow” is one purpose groups that did not assume Sanders would grow to be a long-term franchise quarterback handed on him throughout the 2025 draft till the Browns took a flier on him within the fifth spherical. One now wonders if that shadow will trigger Cleveland to make Sanders out there to different golf equipment within the occasion that Watson wins the full-time beginning job this summer season.
