German tennis star Alexander Zverev sought his maiden Grand Slam title on the 2026 French Open on Sunday. He wasn’t going to let blood sugar points stand in his approach.

Zverev suffers from kind 1 diabetes, which compelled him to take an insulin shot throughout his match towards Flavio Cobolli. On the 2023 French Open, the German star was instructed he could not take pictures on courtroom as a result of it looked “weird,” however the Grand Slam has since modified that stance.

Zverev told Reuters’ Lidia Kelly in January that his battle with kind 1 diabetes forces him to play “two video games without delay” each time he is on the courtroom. After he received his first sport on Sunday, he captured the second.

Alexander Zverev received 2026 French Open after taking insulin shot

Zverev beat Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7 (7), 6-1, in 4 hours and 16 minutes, clinching the long-awaited Grand Slam title. Per OptaAce, the 29-year-old received 125 Grand Slam singles matches, essentially the most amongst any participant within the Open Period en path to his first main match win.
