Lando Norris says McLaren held him accountable for the contact with Oscar Piastri in Singapore, however wouldn’t elaborate on any repercussions at this weekend’s United States Grand Prix.

The incident occurred when Norris tried to overhaul Piastri down the within of Flip 3 on the opening lap, however gentle contact with the rear of Max Verstappen’s automobile resulted in a snap that led to an extra contact with Piastri. The Australian was sad on group radio on the time whereas Norris defended the transfer post-race, however now the latter says McLaren attributed accountability to him.

“The group held me accountable for what occurred, which I feel is truthful, and we made progress from there on understanding what the repercussions have been for myself, to keep away from something worse taking place than what did,” Norris stated.

“However nothing modifications from how we go racing. It is simply we and the group wish to keep away from these form of issues taking place once more. Merely given that there was contact between two McLaren automobiles.

“Zak [Brown] and Andrea [Stella] don’t need that to occur, and I feel as teammates, we do not need that to occur. So in fact, that is the rationale for why I used to be held accountable. It has penalties.”

Whereas Norris went on to complete forward of Piastri in Singapore regardless of requests from the championship chief to deal with the incident, Piastri insists he’s pleased with how the state of affairs has been dealt with since.

“We had a variety of discussions, as you’d count on,” Piastri stated. “They have been very productive. I feel we’re very clear on how we wish to go racing as a group, and that features going ahead. The incident we had in Singapore is not how we wish to go racing. So, Lando’s taken accountability for that, and so has the group.

“So, I feel it is fairly clear for us as a group that how lap one unfolded wasn’t how we wish to go racing.

“I am very completely satisfied [there’s no favoritism]. I feel for me, once more, we analyzed the incident, and there was accountability positioned on Lando finally in that collision. However I am very completely satisfied that there is no favoritism or bias.”

Regardless of the regularity with which McLaren has needed to handle conditions between its two drivers, Piastri additionally doesn’t really feel the group is over-complicating the championship combat.

“The one factor I’d say is it isn’t all the time clear instantly – within the automobile or within the race – what all of the reasoning for sure choices is, however I feel it is all the time been very clear afterwards why sure choices have been taken and why issues have been achieved in a sure means,” he stated.

“For me, I do not suppose it’s over-complicated, no. I feel all the pieces has had a justifiable motive.

“I’d say I am not anticipating it to be redressed on observe any time or each time, however finally we all know how we’re anticipated to go racing, and if we do not, there’s penalties for that.

“So, I am not going to vary something in how I’m going racing. I feel it is clear to me. I do not suppose what occurred was purposeful, or I feel it was only a slight misjudgment, however finally, I am not going to vary how I’m going racing due to that.”
