Former Joe Gibbs Racing crew chief and competitors director Chris Gabehart was thrust into the highlight on Thursday when Joe Gibbs Racing filed a lawsuit alleging that Gabehart stole delicate data from the group and tried to move it to Spire Motorsports, the group the place Gabehart was rumored to be taking a job in 2026.
Gabehart’s departure from JGR turned public in early December.
On Friday night, Gabehart issued an announcement on social media in response to the lawsuit.

“Yesterday afternoon, Joe Gibbs Racing filed a lawsuit claiming – falsely — that I shared JGR confidential data with Spire Motorsports and/or different unnamed third events,” Gabehart stated. “I really feel compelled to talk out immediately and forcefully and emphatically deny these frivolous and retaliatory claims.
