2026 World Cup Odds: Who Will Canada Play In Round Of 32?

    Canada has finally done it.

While Wednesday’s match against Switzerland ended in disappointment, the Canadian men’s national team has qualified for the knockout stage of a World Cup for the first time in its nation’s history.

Canada came into the day needing a win or draw to win Group B. However, after allowing two goals early in the second half, Switzerland topped Group B with a 2-1 win in Vancouver. But, despite the loss, Les Rouges will still be through.

As a result, instead of staying on Canadian soil to host a third-place team, Canada will now travel to Los Angeles to face South Africa in the first Round of 32 matchup of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Sunday.

If Canada wins that match, it will play the winner of the Morocco vs. Group F winner. Group F will be decided on Thursday, and the three nations who could top the group are the Netherlands, Japan and Sweden.

So where does Canada stand after its loss to Switzerland?

Here are the updated odds for how Canada will fare in this year’s tournament at FanDuel Sportsbook as of June 24.

What to know: Canada has only qualified to play in the global event three times — 1986, 2022 and now 2026. While the Canadians ended a 36-year-long drought with its appearance in 2022, it was short-lived, as they got ousted in the group stage with a record of 0-0-3.  However, the momentum continues to build for a Canadian side that turned heads with its fourth-place finish at the 2024 Copa América. Now, after securing the country’s first-ever men’s World Cup win, Les Rouges have a realistic chance to make a run in the tournament. However, following its loss to Switzerland on Wednesday, Canada has moved down the oddsboard from 150-1 to 250-1 to win the World Cup.
