The highly-anticipated rematch between the United States and Canada must wait, as Les Rouges had been eradicated from the CONCACAF Gold Cup in a 6-5 penalty-kick choice after a 1-1 draw with Guatemala on Sunday.

Canada, which had the third-best odds to win the event behind the U.S. and Mexico, was set for a date with the US within the semifinals, however issues did not go in line with plan. When Canada coach Jesse Marsch was requested about his staff’s early exit, he cited the lacking gamers on his roster.

“If I’m sincere, we’re lacking half of our group,” Marsch informed reporters. “That’s not an excuse.”

Earlier than the event began, Marsch made headlines for seemingly taking intention on the stars of the U.S. males’s staff for not taking part within the Gold Cup.

“Not one man known as me and mentioned, ‘Coach, I do not know, it has been an extended 12 months, perhaps I do not come to the Gold Cup.’ Not one man,” Marsch mentioned earlier this month. “Not even near that dialog.”

Essentially the most notable absence for Canada is Alphonso Davies, who many take into account to be the most effective left again on the earth. Davies sustained a torn proper ACL in March through the Concacaf Nations League.

Canada will co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the US and Mexico subsequent summer time.
